The EMDR Centre London is independent of EMDRIA and therefore not accredited by EMDR UK or EMDR Europe – and that is deliberate. We are the alternative for qualified therapists, counsellors and coaches who do not meet EMDR Europe’s eligibility criteria but want to work with the method at the same professional standard.
Entry requirements
To train with us, you will need knowledge of psycho-pathological clinical definitions together with one of the following:
- Experience as a practitioner of psychotherapy
- Psychotherapeutic training in talk therapy, behavioural therapy, family therapy, gestalt, art therapy or body psychotherapy
- Training as a coach, counsellor or trainer, for example in NLP, or comparable training
The EMDR method integrates easily into every established therapeutic procedure, whichever approach you already work with.
What about accreditation?
Most recognised institutions restrict EMDR training to therapists accredited by EMDR UK or EMDR Europe. We take a different view: the method is too valuable, and too compatible with other approaches, to remain closed to everyone outside that circle.
Our training is instead recognised by three professional bodies in its own right: the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), the National Hypnotherapy Society, and – worldwide, whether we train in London or abroad – the International Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (ICPS). International students who are ICPS members gain experience that can count towards Continuing Professional Development. What this means for your certificate is set out under recognition and certification.
Not sure whether you qualify?
If your background does not fit neatly into the categories above, get in touch – we are happy to look at your qualifications individually. You can also see the full EMDR training overview and all upcoming dates.
