Adressing the neurodivergent brain – EMDR with ADHD/autistic clients is a 2-day course offering in-depth training for mental health professionals in using EMDR therapy tailored specifically for ADHD and autistic clients. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of neurodivergent brain function, examining recent research into ADHD and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) to appreciate the unique ways these individuals process emotions, information, and experiences. By deep-diving into the neurological and cognitive distinctions in ADHD and ASD, this training provides a scientific foundation to help practitioners better understand their clients’ experiences, challenges, and specific needs within therapeutic contexts.
Beyond theory, the course is highly practical, equipping therapists with specialized EMDR techniques that address the complexities of working with ADHD and autistic clients. Therapists will learn adaptations for EMDR that respect sensory sensitivities, attention variability, and emotional processing differences, along with techniques to target core ADHD symptoms such as impulsivity, emotional dysregulation, and executive function challenges. Through case studies, hands-on practice, and real-life applications, therapists will leave equipped to provide effective, client-centered EMDR treatment for ADHD and ASD, enhancing their skills to offer transformative outcomes for neurodivergent clients.
